About Sozopol


Sozopol is about 31km from Bourgas and has around 7k residents. Located on a small rocky peninsular at the far end of Bourgas Bay it is connected to the mainland by 100 metre strip of land. Originally a small fishing village Sozopol has become one of the biggest fishing centres of the Black Sea coast and has developed into a popular tourist destination. You can still visit parts of the old town with its cobbled streets and old ladies sitting knitting lace and selling jams.

North of Sozopol is the famous Tsar's Beach and to the south is Raiski Zaliv (Paradise Bay) and further south is a camping site and Kavatsite beach. There is also Harmanite beach which is in the new town.

For sightseeing Sozopol has a lot to offer there are around 45 architectural monuments which include 2 ancient churches St Zosim and the Holy Virgin which date back to the Renaissance era and a local fish trader's house which dates back to the 17th century and is now an art gallery.

Each year in early September Sozopol hosts the Apolonia International Art Festival which attracts many visitors.
